The quick way

Open HumFinder, press Hum a tune, allow the microphone, and hum for about ten seconds. It shows the closest songs, and you can press Play on each one to check. There is no app to install and no account to make.

How to hum so it finds your song

Hum the part you remember best, usually the chorus. Hold it for at least eight seconds, because short hums give it much less to go on.

You don't need to be in tune or in the right key. It compares the ups and downs of the melody, not your exact notes.

Get close to the microphone and pick a quiet spot. Humming, singing "la la la" and whistling can all work.

If it doesn't find your song

HumFinder only knows the songs in its catalogue, which is still growing and doesn't yet include most popular music. If your song isn't listed, it isn't your humming. Try again with a different part of the song, or try a search with any lyrics you remember.
